Our Mission
Editorial Principles
Artivism Media operates on a set of core principles that guide our curation, documentation, and presentation of content:
- Transparency: We clearly document our sources, methodologies, and decision-making processes.
- Accessibility: We prioritize content that is freely accessible and properly licensed for reuse.
- Attribution: We respect creators' rights and ensure proper attribution for all content.
- Neutrality: We document movements and actions without editorial bias, presenting factual information.
- Quality: We maintain high standards for metadata accuracy and content verification.
- Inclusivity: We aim to represent diverse voices and movements from around the world.
Inclusion Criteria
We include content in our archive when it meets the following criteria:

- Content is publicly accessible, properly licensed for inclusion, or can be referenced/cited under fair use principles
- Content has sufficient metadata (title, author, date, location) for meaningful discovery
- Content aligns with our editorial policy regarding sensitive material
- Content serves an educational, historical, or cultural preservation purpose
Note: Some artivism-related media may be referenced or linked on our site under fair use principles for educational and documentation purposes, even when not directly hosted or fully licensed. In such cases, we provide citations and links to original sources.
Exclusion Criteria
We exclude content that:
- Contains hate speech, incitement to violence, or illegal content
- Lacks sufficient metadata to be meaningfully searchable or citable
- Is purely commercial without educational or historical value
- Violates privacy rights or contains unauthorized personal information
- Does not relate to artivism, social movements, or cultural activism
Licensing & Attribution
We prioritize content with clear licensing, especially Creative Commons licenses and public domain works. For each item in our archive, we:
- Document the license type and requirements
- Provide proper attribution to creators and sources
- Link to original sources when available
- Respect license terms and restrictions
- Maintain a dedicated Commons section for freely reusable content
For detailed information about licensing, see our licensing page.
Why Artivism Media Exists
Artivism Media exists because movements matter. Social and cultural movements shape our world, but their documentation is often fragmented, ephemeral, or difficult to access. We believe that understanding these movements—their history, their tactics, their art, and their impact—is essential for:
- Preserving cultural memory and movement history
- Enabling research and scholarship on social change
- Inspiring future activists and artists
- Providing tools for citation and academic work
- Creating connections between movements across time and space
By building a comprehensive, searchable, and well-documented archive, we aim to contribute to the preservation and understanding of artivism movements worldwide.
Our Commitment
We are committed to maintaining an archive that is accurate, respectful, and useful. We continuously work to improve our metadata, expand our coverage, and ensure that the platform serves its intended purpose: making artivism content discoverable, citable, and accessible to all.
